New Year, New Book Clubs!


We love book clubs and we're enjoying hosting our book club meetings over Zoom. We have an exciting mix of book clubs lined up already for January - March of 2021. There's a book club for those who love mysteries, and one for those who love poetry, there's a movie lovers book club, and one for those interested in mindfulness and self-help, we even have one in Spanish.

Led by our amazing book club facilitator Elsie Souza, The Mysteries to Die For Book Club meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 11 a.m. On January 12, they discuss Open Season by C.J. Box, on February 9th they discuss Murder in the Marais by Cara Black and on March 9th they discuss The Searcher by Tana French.


Led by our resident poetry expert Doug Knowlton, The Poetry Book Club meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. On January 13th they discuss A Map of the Lost World by Rick Hilles, on February 10th they discuss The Tradition by Jericho Brown, and on March 10th they discuss Postcolonial Love Poem by Natalie Diaz.


Roxanne Baker is a former school counselor who also loves movies. She leads two book clubs where she uses these passions that meet on the fourth Monday of the month at 6 p.m. The Mindful Reading Book Club will meet on January 25th to discuss This One Wild and Precious Life by Sarah Wilson, and they will meet on February 22nd to discuss Words to Eat By by Karen Koenig. The Movie Lovers Book Club meets on March 22nd to discuss A Bright Ray of Darkness by Ethan Hawke.


The Amigos Book Clubs are a cultural association between CreArte Latino and Bookstore1Sarasota. There are book clubs for children, teens, and adults. All meetings are conducted 100% in Spanish. Each book is discussed for several weeks and you can join at any time. The Family Book Club is for 6 – 10 year old youth. Start date January 12th, Tuesdays from 6 – 7 p.m. for 5 sessions. They will discuss Wonder: La Lección de August / Wonder by R. J. Palacio. The Teen Book is for 11 – 15 year old teens. Start date January 12th, Tuesdays from 7 – 8 p.m. for 5 sessions. They will discuss Esperanza Renace / Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan. The Adult Book Club is for for ages 18+. Start date January 18th, Mondays from 7 – 8 p.m. for 4 sessions. They will discuss Intermitencias de la Muerte / Death with Interruptions by José Saramago.
