Roxanne Reviews "Get Out of Your Head: Stopping the Spiral of Toxic Thoughts"

The wonder of life is reaching new heights. This not only applies to intellectual learning, but emotional achievement as well. Just when I thought I had an excellent mental health tool kit, here comes Jennie Allen’s book Get Out of Your Head: Stopping the Spiral of Toxic Thoughts by Jennie Allen.

To use an analogy, Get Out of Your Head is like a hardware store as compared to a Lowe’s. You know the comfort you have going to a small Mom and Pop shop, where you don’t have to travel miles down aisles to get what you need, a place where a human is readily available. Jennie Allen’s book is condensed at a short 200+ pages, but breaks down each and every malady with a how to stop the nonsense in your head.

Feel fear? She’s got a plan. Hurt? Here you go, done. Stress? Got it, fixed. Anger? Ok, no problem, here’s a kit. And my core shattering problem, shame. Reading her chapter on shame and the cure for such rotten thoughts made me frightened for what I’ve been living in for half a century (basically a house without a foundation) with a clear cut way to strengthen myself against this perpetuation.

Get Out of Your Head is fixed in Jennie’s deeply held religious faith. But even an agnostic like me could easily appreciate the saturation of biblical verses since the advice was so gorgeous and no nonsense.
